Having to censor myself, or to be as inclusive as possible really inhibits my ability to get any sort of positive message out.

Sometimes people say ‘woman’s choice’ instead of ‘uterus bearer’s choice’ It DOESN’T mean they’re trying to erase the struggle of transgendered/female identified people who don’t have uteruses.

Sometimes people say LGBT instead of LGBTQ, I, *, whatever the inclusive term of the moment is, it doesn’t mean they’re trying to erase the struggle of anyone who doesn’t fall under specific lesbian, gay, bi, or trans umbrella.

Sometimes people say ‘that’s stupid’. It’s NOT meant to be ableist.

Yes, sometimes people complain about things that they’re lucky to have because they’re privileged. It HAPPENS. (example: When I talk about how my brand new macbook won’t connect to my neighbor’s wifi because it’s made of aluminum, YES, I am aware of how lucky I am to have a brand new macbook. but it would be frustrating for ANYONE to not be able to get online after years of being able to.)

When you deliberately point out the tiniest mistake someone makes and make them feel awful for it, lots of times instead of going forward and not making the same mistake again, many people throw up their hands and say ‘what’s the point of me opening my mouth? they’ll find something wrong in ANYTHING I say.’ And that, in itself, is destructive to a community that’s trying to be inclusive.

EVERYONE is human, and therefore, EVERYONE makes mistakes. Not everyone has been exposed to the social justice community, and if their first experience with it is people telling them they’re doing something wrong, they’re not going to form a very fond opinion. YOU ARE HURTING YOURSELVES.
